Garden waste subscription update – 22 July 2020

Published: Wednesday, 22nd July 2020

Due to the popularity of the Garden Waste service, recently re-opened following the easing of coronavirus restrictions, a decision has been taken to only allow re-subscriptions with immediate effect.

Unfortunately, unprecedented demand since re-opening sales last week means the council has run out of stock of new garden bins.

As there is currently an extended lead time of several weeks for the delivery of new bins from our suppliers, the council has taken the decision to temporarily stop sales where residents do not already have a garden bin that they can use. The service is therefore only currently open to renewals for residents with a garden bin already at their property.

This will be at the reduced rate of £30, which will cover the remainder of the 2020 collection season (a fortnightly service which ends in late November/early December).

However due to the way in which the council’s contact centre is working remotely, only online bookings will be possible.

After placing a booking, a re-subscriber will be sent a garden waste bin sticker (indicating their 2020 eligibility) by post.

Please be aware that collections will only resume once the garden bin sticker has been received and displayed on the garden bin. This may take up to 14 days to arrive after subscribing to the service.

An alternative to the garden waste re-subscriptions is the city council’s bulky waste service, through which up to 20 bags of waste will be taken for a fee.
