Appeal for Birmingham food distribution donations

Published: Tuesday, 21st July 2020

#BrumTogether, a network of over 80 community organisations and voluntary groups across Birmingham, has launched an urgent appeal to support those hit hardest by Covid-19 and lockdown.

Over 50,000 food parcels have been distributed across the city by The Active Wellbeing Society and the #BrumTogether network over the last three months, which have been a lifeline to those in need.

The city council has delivered more than half a million food items in over 42,000 parcels to shielding people.

But despite the lockdown restrictions easing, there’s still unprecedented demand for food supplies and essential supplies and over the next few weeks #BrumTogether is raising funds to continue supporting food distribution.

Cllr John Cotton, cabinet member for community safety and equalities, said: "Throughout the pandemic the city council and our partners have been working tirelessly to ensure vulnerable people don’t go hungry. However, as lockdown continues to ease and we gradually return to some kind of 'normality' we must remember that there are still people who need support and who struggle to put food on the table; that was the sad reality for many people before Covid-19 and the knock-on effect of the pandemic could be even worse.

"I know the people and businesses of Birmingham are generous and want to support their community, so I would ask that as you settle back into a more regular routine please spare a thought for those who need help, and donate if you can."

How you can help
