Government business grants surpass the £200Million mark
Birmingham City Council is pleased to announce that it has paid out support grants in excess of £200Million to over 16,000 struggling local businesses.
Following the £231 million awarded by the Government in April 2020, to support Birmingham businesses, City Council staff have been working very hard to identify eligible businesses. The latest figure is £200.9Million which has been paid out to 16,693 businesses.
There are two grant schemes for businesses which includes a business grant of £10,000 for small businesses or up to £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses. Since April 2020, Birmingham City Council has been working to pay out grants to businesses that meet the criteria.
Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Ian Ward said:
“We know that the last few months have been tough for businesses across the city and we are pleased to have reached such an important milestone in our efforts to protect jobs and businesses.
“Our teams have been working hard to process a huge number of grant applications and they have also done everything possible to reach out to eligible businesses to ensure that they did not miss out on this important lifeline.”
The Council has been asking businesses to make sure they have registered their details to be considered for the grants available.
Teams have also been reaching out to those who needed to come forward. This has involved working over weekends to contact businesses that were eligible but not on the council system.
The Council has now paid out over three quarters of the allocated funding and are working to process the final bulk of grant submissions. Proactive work will be done to identify any other businesses that the council has not heard from.
Businesses that have already submitted an online form but have not yet heard back are advised not complete another form, as this may cause further delays.
Further information of the grants available can be viewed on the website.
