Strokes for Life swimming lessons

The Strokes for Life programme has been designed to ensure that both children and adults receive high quality, professional swimming instruction in a safe and friendly environment. The all-inclusive programme takes non-swimmers from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.

Download the ‘Strokes for Life Programme Stages’ document to identify the ideal class for you or your child.

Strokes for Life is an ongoing programme which you can join at any time. Lessons run all year except for a 2 week break at Christmas.

You must pay in advance for 10 consecutive weeks of lessons. Any lesson during the 10 week period which is missed cannot be carried forward, and will be forfeited.

Further lessons can be topped up via a home portal or at the leisure centre in blocks of 10.

Anyone booked on a Strokes for Life course can swim for free during general swimming sessions.

Booking a course

You can book a course at your local swimming pool. If the student has any relevant medical, health or learning needs, tell reception at the time of booking.

You will need a leisure card to book lessons.

Children’s lessons

Children develop at their own pace, so whether you choose affordable group lessons or one-to-one tuition, Strokes for Life will help your child reach their full potential.

Throughout the Strokes for Life programme, children work towards achieving badges and certificates. They can also work towards specific awards in distance, survival and water safety.

Adult lessons

Adults can learn to swim or improve their technique with Strokes for Life.
