The purpose of the Public Open Space in Residential Developments SPD is to guide developers on open space and children's play provision or contributions when they apply for planning permission for new residential developments.
The document then sets out how provision is calculated and how it can be achieved either on or off site, or both. General guidance on open space is already provided in national planning policy - PPG17 Planning for Open Space Sport and Recreation, and our Unitary Development Plan and Draft Core Strategy. This SPD was prepared within the context of these documents.
