Erdington is a large suburban shopping centre providing a wide range of shops and other services at the heart of the Erdington community. The Erdington Action Plan was adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance in November 1998 and seeks to:

  • Maintain and improve the attractiveness of Erdington as a local centre and a focus for the local community.
  • Improve the local environment to make Erdington a safer and more attractive area for those people who shop, work or live there.
  • Guide and stimulate future investment and new development.
  • Review car parking and traffic management in the centre and adjoining residential roads, and help to improve public transport to the centre.

A number of public realm improvements, including the Village Green, have been completed following the adoption of the Action Plan. However there is still considerable scope for enhancements to the vitality and attractiveness of the centre. A Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) will be produced to guide the future development of the area, and this page will be updated shortly to provide more information on this.

A pdf version of the Erdington Action Plan is below along with a map showing the area covered by the proposals. Please note that the primary retail policy and local centre boundary have both been superseded by the Shopping and Local Centres SPD, adopted in March 2012.

Document Status : Statutory Policy Document - Adopted November 1998
