Colmore Row and Environs Conservation Area
Colmore Row and Environs Conservation Area was designated in October 1971 and extended in March and then July 1985. The conservation area lies at the civic and commercial heart of Birmingham and reflects its development from a prosperous market town to a great provincial city. Its significance lies in the quality and diversity of its architecture, particularly that of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and it contains a number of buildings of exceptional interest and national importance.
A character appraisal and management plan for the area was produced to provide a framework for the preservation and enhancement of the character of the Conservation Area. This document was adopted as a supplementary planning document in 2006.
A map showing the boundary of the conservation area is below along with the designation report.
