School Attendance Updates
Year 11 college placements
Just a quick reminder to colleagues in schools that any year 10 or year 11 pupils referred to colleges, or other alternative providers, must be kept on roll until the end of compulsory school age. It is unlawful to delete a child’s name from the registers because they are attending an alternative provider such as a college. The regulations regarding deletion are very strict.
For guidance on registration codes relating to pupils attending alternative provision, please refer to ‘Working together to improve school attendance’ which you can access here:
Working together to improve school attendance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The DfE guidance has been updated and in addition to information about school, LA and other services responsibilities relation to attendance, registration coding etc., there is also a section on deletion from roll.
The deletion regulations are also outlined in the current statutory CME guidance and in local authority guidance. You can find both here:
Children missing education - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Part-time/Reduced Timetables
A reminder to colleagues that the updated Part-time/Reduced Timetable guidance for schools has been published. The revised forms which schools will need to complete are now live after an initial glitch for which we apologise. The guidance and link to the forms can be found here:
EYSFF Returns for Autumn Term 2023
For schools with Early Years provision for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.
Each term you are required to submit and return an on-line EYSFF submission to provide us with your numbers of eligible 2 year olds, EYPP and FSM take up so that we can reconcile your early years funding. It is the school’s responsibility to ensure that the form is completed within the time frame - failure to do so will result in incorrect budget allocations.
The link to the form will be emailed to schools during Census week and you will be required to complete the form between 5th and 12th October 2023. The email is sent to your enquiry@ email address so please ensure that the person responsible for this mailbox knows who to forward the link to within your school. We do not have the facility to use individual email addresses.
Please only include your Early Years Children on this form - do not include children in Reception.
Remember that all 2 year olds that you claim for and all 3 and 4 year olds that you are claiming EYPP and FSM for must have an eligible code that you must keep a note of on the children's records for the purpose of EEE audit. If the system does not confirm eligibility, you can contact earlyeducation@birmingham.gov.uk for support.
Please note there is no facility to receive a copy of your on-line submission - however you should have the details of numbers of eligible children on your records in line with the terms and conditions of EEE funding. The EEE Provider Agreement detailing the terms and conditions of delivering early education entitlement can be found on EYMIS:
http://www.ted-birmingham.org.uk
To access EYMIS please use Username: PVI2 Password PVI2year
If you have any queries regarding the on-line form or the eligibility of children, please email earlyeducation@birmingham.gov.uk FAO Dee Sterling-Miller
If you have any queries regarding your funding allocation, please email fairfunding@birmingham.gov.uk
DfE Survey on Assessment
The Department for Education has launched a short survey to seek the views of early years practitioners, teachers and school and setting leaders on assessment in the EYFS. The survey includes questions on, assessment of children with special education needs and disabilities, the early learning goals and the EYFS Profile. Feedback from the sector will help shape future policy development in this area.
The survey is available here and will remain open until Tuesday 3rd October.
We would be grateful if you could support us by sharing the survey with the settings in your area, so they have an opportunity to provide their views.
DfE Statutory School Census – Autumn 2023
Earlier this week a letter was sent to all schools with important information about the upcoming school census. If you have any queries, please contact schoolcensus@birmingham.gov.uk
