A £665,000 investment has enabled this Grade II listed library to replace all of the skylights, high level windows and roof coverings to ensure the building is watertight. All roof timbers have been treated for wet and dry rot and beams have been replaced where necessary. Large sections of interior walls have been re-plastered and the library has had major electrical works completed. The building has been fitted with a fire alarm system and has been re-decorated.
The library has also made some adjustments to the layout to improve access for those in wheelchairs or with buggies. Improvements have been made to the external ramp and a new enquiry counter has been installed which makes it easier for library users to enter the building.
New furniture has been purchased with Community Chest funding from Oscott Ward, and improved signage will make it easier for readers to find what they are looking for.

Community Room
As part of the major refurbishment works at the library the Community Room received a makeover which included the provision of new furniture. Access to the room is from the main library only. It is carpeted, has a kitchen and easy access to the library public toilets. The toilet facilities include a parent and baby room, and a toilet designed for use by people with disabilities. Tables and chairs are provided in the Community Room and blinds can be drawn over the windows. There are plenty of sockets for electrical equipment, although you will need an accompanying certificate showing that the equipment has been tested for safety by a competent electrician, or use a power breaker. Some crockery is available, and there is a water heater above the sink in the kitchen.
The room is available for use by community groups, at the discretion of the Library Service. Where the aims of the group are in line with those of the Library, use of the room may be without charge, but staffing costs such as security may need to be paid. Other organisations will be charged a non-commercial or a commercial rate. The room is not available for parties, wedding receptions, etc. and alcohol is not permitted. If it is to be booked while the Library is open, the group's activities must not affect the provision of the service. The room is not available on Sundays or after 10pm. Please ask the Community Librarian for further details.
