City Centre Canal Corridor Development Framework - Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG)
This document, prepared in partnership with British Waterways, provides planning and urban design guidance for the city centre canal corridor from Holliday Street Wharf in the Convention Quarter to Warwick Bar in Eastside.
The City Centre canal network has provided a particular focus for new development and a catalyst for urban regeneration in Birmingham. The regeneration of Gas Street basin, Brindleyplace and Aston Science Park has shown how development can make positive use of its canal side setting. However, despite these successes, much remains to be done if we are to realise the full potential of the entire City Centre canal network. This is particularly the case along those sections of the canal that run through the Gun Quarter and Warwick Bar. We have prepared a development framework to help realise this potential.
The framework was adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance in April 2002. It will be used to determine planning applications, bid for resources, provide a basis for detailed planning guidance and guide management of the canal network.
