Big City Plan
The Big City Plan, the single spatial strategy for the City Centre, will shortly reach its next stage - Stage 2 Producing the Masterplan
Championed by Council Leader, Mike Whitby, and led by the City Council’s Director of Regeneration, Waheed Nazir, the masterplan under the banner of the Big City Plan, will build upon the great success of the visioning work undertaken in Stage 1.
It will turn the concepts and objectives into reality through focussing on the delivery of several key regeneration projects of national importance including New Street Station, the Southern Gateway, the Library of Birmingham and Paradise Circus and others through a coordinated and single spatial strategy.
The masterplan, due in the Summer 2010, will be underpinned by a City Centre Transport Vision and Strategy jointly prepared by the City Council, Centro and the Business Improvement Districts, Interconnect Birmingham – a comprehensive City Centre signing and interpretation system, and the Retail Birmingham Design Strategy – for improving the identity and connectivity of the City Centre’s retail district.
Working in partnership with both private sector and public sector organisations, the masterplan will cover key redevelopment opportunities and provide a coherent approach to connectivity, permeability, accessibility and legibility for the City Centre.
The Big City Plan team are currently developing the Master Plan documents. Further updates and messages regarding the Big City Plan Stage 2 developments will be posted onto this web site and at www.bigcityplan.org.uk at the end of May 2010 and onwards.
