Aston, Newtown and Lozells Area Action Plan
Shortcut to this www.birmingham.gov.uk/astonaap
This document sets out how parts of Aston, Newtown, Lozells and Perry Barr / Birchfield could grow and develop over the next 15 years. It identifies areas for housing regeneration, new commercial growth, and a proposal for a major employment area at East Aston – the Regional Investment Site.
After submitting the latest document to the Government Inspector for his consideration in October 2011 (see below), public inquiry hearings were held in January 2012 to look at the outstanding comments on the Plan.
Following that, we issued a revised Schedule of Proposed Changes to the Plan and are inviting comments on it until 9th March 2012.
Please email any comments on this Schedule to jetendra.singh@birmingham.gov.uk by this date and your comments will be forwarded to the Inspector. We're sorry, but late comments cannot be considered.
The Inspector's report is likely to be sent to us later in March.
Once agreed by the Government the plan will become a statutory land use plan as part of our Local Development Framework and be used when we consider planning applications for new development.
How we got this far
Consultation on the Plan began in 2007 with an Issues & Options Report, followed by a Preferred Options Report in 2009. A large number of comments were received from both local residents and organisations, as well as from statutory agencies. This resulted in our Final Draft in January 2011 (known as a Proposed Submission Document).
At that stage we invited representations on the legal compliance and soundness of the proposals, before we submitted it to the Government.
21 representations were received. In response to these we produced an Addendum to the Submission Document (July / August 2011) which set out some changes to the Plan as a result of the comments made.
These changes have been incorporated in the final Submission Document (August 2011) sent to the Government Inspectors on 14th October 2011.
The Inspector held public inquiry hearings (known as an 'examination in public')into the outstanding comments on the plan on 24th and 25th January 2012.
