Update from Birmingham School Health Support Service
Service update – January 2021
School Nursing Service has continued to support children, families and schools throughout the pandemic. We will continue to work closely with schools, children and families.
COVID 19 (Lockdown) specific changes:
Contact between schools and the service will be virtual. Any exceptions to this will be mutually risk assessed.
Children and parents can be seen virtually via WhatsApp and Microsoft (MS) teams. Attend Anywhere will also be utilised for Secondary Virtual Drop-ins.
Medical Needs training and meetings with Staff via MS teams which will be mutually agreed through the School Nursing Partnership Agreement review this term.
Duty Nurses will continue to be available Monday to Friday 8-5pm for advice and as single point of access.
ChatHealth Text Service - 07480635485
The school health texting service can provide confidential support for students aged 11 years upwards around relationships, mental health, alcohol, bullying, self-harm, smoking, drugs and healthy eating. During COVID 19 parents are also able to text this number to seek support. A poster about this service is attached with this update.
Virtual School Nurse Drop-in (Secondary Pupils)
The virtual school nurse drop-in is on offer to all secondary school age children. Every Tuesday and Thursday 4.30-5.30pm (all year round). This can be accessed via the link https://nhs.vc/BCHC/C-F/Schl-Nurse/Drop-In. Please share the attached poster with your pupils.

Nocturnal Enuresis Service
The Enuresis service can still be contacted Monday to Friday, 9-5pm (excluding bank holidays).

The Enuresis service is a citywide service.
Birmingham School Aged Immunisation Service
From 1st September 2020 the Immunisation service will be following national guidance, delivering the routine school aged vaccinations in schools as well as offering the opportunity to attend community clinics. A full list of clinic locations and more information can be found on the Immunisation Team website. These vaccinations will include;
- Seasonal Flu—from reception to year 7 (being offered during the flu season)
- HPV vaccinations for pupils in year 8 & 9
- Teenage booster vaccinations to pupils in year 9.
- MMR vaccination to pupils in year 8,9 and 10 who have missed a vaccination
The service will also be offering any pupil who missed a vaccination last year the opportunity to have these vaccinations. The service can be contacted on;
