Update for schools: 22 January 2021

This update includes the Public Health flowchart, further information following the risk assessment webinar and information regarding PPE for special schools.

Public Health flowchart for schools

The Public Health flowchart has been updated and is available at this link. The only change made to this version was to add ‘day one of isolation is the day after……’  everywhere relevant.

Please refer to the most up to date flowchart at the link above whenever you are dealing with a confirmed or suspected case.

We have requested guidance from Public Health England regarding the position on testing of those who have had COVID within 90 days and will share this with schools as soon as we have received it.

Special schools’ PPE

All special schools (and Special Post-16 Institutions (SPIs)) in England are now being invited to register and order PPE through the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). More information is contained in the email sent to these settings by the DHSC PPE Portal Team.

If schools have any queries, please contact the DHSC Customer Service team on 0800 876 6802.

Risk assessment – follow up from webinar

Following feedback from Wednesday’s webinar, we agreed to devise a hybrid template incorporating the current risk and latest guidance with the focus on both on site and remote learning. The hybrid template is available at this link.

We will continue to review and update the risk assessment as guidance is released. Please feedback any concerns/queries to edsi.enquiries@birmingham.gov.uk

The appendix on LFD testing at school is under review for release next week following the change in DfE guidance on pupil testing and consideration across different sectors eg EY, primary.

The DfE data referred to in the webinar is at this link.

Arrangements for February half-term

We have asked the DfE to confirm if there will be an expectation that schools open to vulnerable children and those of key workers during half-term in February. The DfE has confirmed that an announcement on this will be made imminently.
