Inclusion Headteacher Conference - 10 July 2023

We’re delighted to invite you to join us at our Inclusion Headteacher Conference taking place on Monday, 10 July at 13:00-16:30. The venue for this event is Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Edgbaston Road, Birmingham B5 7QU, and you can book your place here: Inclusion Headteacher Conference - July 2023

The programme is packed full of informative and interesting keynote presentations, and provides an opportunity for networking over lunch.

Alongside our keynote speaker, Ian Hardman, His Majesty’s Inspector and Regional Lead for SEND, you’ll hear from our Director of Children Services, Sue Harrison; John Coughlan CBE and Helen Ellis, Director for SEND and Inclusion. There’ll also be a facilitated discussion by Debbie James, former Birmingham Headteacher and School Improver, highlighting the barriers and strengths to inclusion in the city.

This ‘not to be missed’ event is designed for headteachers and we very much look forward to seeing you there!

SAVE THE DATE! UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Celebration - 13 October 2023

Schools will be aware of the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award, with many of you already achieving bronze, silver, and gold status.

In July last year we hosted an event at the Repertory Theatre, which was enthusiastically and well received by all. 

This year is a further opportunity for schools, children, and parents to join in the celebrations taking place on Friday, 13 October 2023 with an exciting and jam-packed agenda, including:

  • Recognition for schools who have recently achieved their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards
  • Celebrating our children and young people through dance, music, and drama
  • Information and learning through a plethora of uplifting presentations
  • And finally, the launch of our Children and Young People’s Plan, Child Friendly City recognition and the highlights of our 100 Brilliant Days Campaign! 

This is an event focused on our shared passion of putting children and young people at the heart of all we do. Please mark this important date in your calendars and watch this space for further news and information.

Please note that all Rights Respecting Schools will be contacted separately inviting ‘Expressions of Interest’ for children to perform at the event.

Audience seating for Rights Respecting Schools will be prioritised, and once allocated, all other schools will be able to apply for remaining seats.

EYSFF Returns for Summer Term 2023

Deadline for submissions – Friday, 16 June!

Schools are required to provide an online EYSFF return each term to report numbers of eligible 2-year olds, EYPP and FSM take-up to ensure early years funding can be reconciled. It is the responsibility of schools, to ensure the return is completed within the timeframe, and non-submission where funding for 2, 3 and 4-year olds (Early Years and not Reception) is received will affect budget allocations.

The link to the form was provided to schools during Census week with a request for completion between 18 and 25 May 2023. The information was sent to a schools ‘enquiry@’ mailbox, as we do not have the facility to use individual email addresses.

Only Early Years children should be included on the form – please do not include children in Reception. All claims must be for children in attendance at Summer headcount (Thursday, 18 May 2023), as per the terms and conditions of funding detailed in the EEE Provider Agreement.

Please remember that all 2-year olds claimed for and all 3 and 4-year olds that schools are claiming EYPP and FSM for, must have an eligible code. Please keep a record of this code for the EEE audit. If the system does not confirm eligibility, please contact the Early Education team for support: earlyeducation@birmingham.gov.uk.

Governor Community Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Survey

School & Governor Support would be very grateful for Headteachers’ assistance in encouraging their governors to complete a very short Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Survey: Governor Community Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Survey

We know you will agree that having Governing Boards which represent the diversity of our pupils and the communities we serve enables equality to be promoted and maintained, as well as bringing a wealth of skills and knowledge. But oversight of our governor community has shown that we do not have sufficient information on record about governors’ characteristics. 

Please could you ask your governors to complete the survey – or allocate just two minutes for this to be done at the start of your next Board meeting. From the anonymous data provided, we will share a Diversity Dashboard with you. This will enable us all to be better informed of the extent to which our governing community is representative of school communities across Birmingham.  Thank you!

Risk of NEET Students – Years 11, 12 and 13

Birmingham Careers Service will be offering its RONI (risk of NEET) offer with effect from Monday, 17 April 2023.

Careers Leads are invited to submit a fully completed referral form for any 2023 leaver they consider is at risk of not progressing into education, employment or training.
