Ladywood Constituency Neighbourhood Management
What is Neighbourhood Management?
 | Neighbourhood management brings community and service providers together at a neighbourhood level, to tackle local problems and improve local services. | | The manager views the neighbourhood rather than specific services and develops a systematic, planned approach to improving the quality of life. | | The approach is based on influencing mainstream service providers in how they deliver services and make resource decisions, rather than through the provision of additional special resources. | | The manager is primarily accountable to the local community through a multi-sector board, which focuses on tackling problems from the local citizens’ perspective. |

Ladywood Community Safety Statement
Although overall crime is consistently falling, Ladywood Constituency has
significant crime and disorder challenges. Rates of crime within the
constituency are, in certain instances, significantly above the Birmingham
average in some of the major crime categories. In addition to this, the
city centre falls within the Constituency which, although falling, has the
highest rates of violent crime, including wounding, common assault and
robbery.
Ward councillors (Aston, Ladywood, Nechells and Soho) have
invested a significant amount of Neighbourhood Renewal Funding into
projects with a crime and liveability focus as have Birmingham’s Community
Safety Partnership. This investment, together with a partnership approach
to impacting upon priority crime (via the Ladywood Community Safety Group)
has resulted in a fall in overall crime across the constituency. Presently
crime stands at -18.6% (March 07) which means Ladywood Constituency is
well on target to achieving the - 20% reduction set within the Birmingham
Community Strategy 2005 - 08.
With regards to community safety
intervention NRF and BCSP funded interventions, it is envisaged that these
projects will build upon the success of previous years and contribute to
further reductions in overall crime across the Ladywood Constituency.
