Ladywood Constituency Convention
This year the Ladywood Constituency Convention will take place at the Banqueting Suite, The Council House, Victoria Square on the 17th October 2009. Space is limited and so access will be on a first come first served basis. The event will bring together Ward Councillors, residents and partner agencies and will run from 9.30am to 15.30pm.
The main purpose of the day will be about celebrating the success of Ladywood Constituency. Our work with partner agencies; new initiative projects; contributions from voluntary and community groups; local residents and staff who have worked tirelessly to serve the residents of the Ladywood Constituency.
The day will be in two parts, the first part of the event will be a review of the Neighbourhood Strategy and how it affects your area; what has been done, also an opportunity to share good practice. The second part of the event will be an award ceremony, recognising those individuals and groups within the last 12 months who have made a contribution to Ladywood Constituency, making it a better place to live and work.
We would very much like to see you there and members of your group. For further information please contact Sandra Lawrence on 0121 464 9464 or by e-mail on Sandra_lawrence@birmingham.gov.uk. Please see the attachment at the bottom of the page for further information.

Ladywood Constituency Neighbourhood Management
What is Neighbourhood Management?
- Neighbourhood management brings community and service providers together at a neighbourhood level, to tackle local problems and improve local services.
- The manager views the neighbourhood rather than specific services and develops a systematic, planned approach to improving the quality of life.
- The approach is based on influencing mainstream service providers in how they deliver services and make resource decisions, rather than through the provision of additional special resources.
- The manager is primarily accountable to the local community through a multi-sector board, which focuses on tackling problems from the local citizensperspective.

Ladywood Community Safety StatementAlthough overall crime is consistently falling, Ladywood Constituency has significant crime and disorder challenges. Rates of crime within the constituency are, in certain instances, significantly above the Birmingham average in some of the major crime categories. In addition to this, the city centre falls within the Constituency which, although falling, has the highest rates of violent crime, including wounding, common assault and robbery.
Ward councillors (Aston, Ladywood, Nechells and Soho) have invested a significant amount of Neighbourhood Renewal Funding into projects with a crime and liveability focus as have Birminghams Community Safety Partnership. This investment, together with a partnership approach to impacting upon priority crime (via the Ladywood Community Safety Group) has resulted in a fall in overall crime across the constituency. Presently crime stands at -18.6% (March 07) which means Ladywood Constituency is well on target to achieving the - 20% reduction set within the Birmingham Community Strategy 2005 - 08.
With regards to community safety intervention NRF and BCSP funded interventions, it is envisaged that these projects will build upon the success of previous years and contribute to further reductions in overall crime across the Ladywood Constituency. Ladywood Census information
