Part-time or reduced timetables

In very exceptional circumstances, there may be a need for a temporary part-time or reduced timetable to meet a student's individual needs. For example, where a medical condition stops a student from attending full-time education or a reduced timetable is considered as part of a re-integration package.

Ofsted states that information about children missing from education is essential, and you must notify us of any part-time education arrangements. This includes:

  • schools we maintain
  • academies
  • free schools
  • independent schools

We have published updated guidance to set out the process for you to notify us when a child is placed on a part-time or reduced school timetable.

Download the part-time or reduced timetables guidance.

You must notify us if:

  • a child in Reception to the end of year 11 is placed on a part-time/reduced timetable and is therefore not currently receiving full-time educational provision
  • you are updating or extending a notification you have already submitted
  • you are closing the notification.
