What's New Bulletin 144 - 11 May 2023

This is edition 144 of the provider bulletin, containing information on guidance, procedures and new initiatives. Very urgent or high priority communications may still be issued on an ad hoc basis, but we will try to keep these to a minimum.

1. Urgent action required - Market Sustainability and Improvement Fund 2023/24 (All Birmingham based CQC registered locations)

Further to the government announcement of the Market Sustainability and Improvement Fund in the November 2022 autumn statement the government has released further details and guidance, see link below:

Birmingham is currently developing plans to utilise its £13.1m share of the funding, which it is required to submit to the DHSC in May alongside a range of reporting metrics.

In order to comply with the grant conditions the DHSC requires the Council to submit the following workforce data for each Birmingham based CQC registered location:

  • Total number of new recruits commencing employment in the month of April 2023
  • Total number of employees leaving employment in the month of April 2023

We therefore request that you complete and submit this short survey (via Microsoft Forms) by midnight on Thursday 18 May 2023 so that we can collate the data. Please click on the link below to open the survey.

2. Energy bills support scheme – care home residents may be able to apply for a £400 grant (information for all care homes)

The Government is asking all care homes to bring this scheme to the attention of their residents. Please read the attached factsheet and care home letter for more information

This session is aimed at Preceptorship leads who are considering submitting an application, for the National Interim Quality Mark. This will be an open question and answer session, where Jenny will share top tips that will support organisation preparing an application.

Preceptor training – train the trainer.

This is intended for those who deliver or are planning to deliver preceptor training to preceptors.

This session will cover:-

  • the delivery of preceptor training for those who are new to the role and provides an overview of preceptorship, the framework, roles and an introduction to the tools and knowledge for managing meetings with the preceptee.
  • the delivery of refresher training for existing preceptors to update their understanding of the preceptorship framework and roles.

Coaching skills for Preceptors

This half day workshop offers an introduction to coaching skills for facilitating the preceptor/preceptee relationship. This training is for anybody who support preceptors.

This session will cover:-

  • coaching in context of preceptorship
  • Identification of appropriate situations for coaching and use of other skills
  • Understanding how to structure a coaching conversation
  • Using a coaching framework

5. Changes to Capacity Tracker (information for all providers)

The following changes have been recently made to the Capacity Tracker;

All Users - Password Security

Following changes in March, the new password criteria for Capacity Tracker has been implemented.  To date over 3000 users have successfully updated their password.  Whilst we will be phasing the rollout over the coming months, should you need to re-set your password, a reminder of the criteria is set out below:

  • A minimum of 12 characters
  • No previous password can be used
  • Commonly used passwords or ones included on the National Cyber Security Centre list of breached passwords will not be permitted

Workforce Headcount

Definitions of 'Directly Employed Staff' and 'Agency / Bank' have now been added as hover text to the Workforce Headcount to help users who are updating the Capacity Tracker, understand where to correctly add their data.

  • Agency: Agency is anyone who is not directly employed and is typically paid at a premium per hour
  • Directly Employed Staff: Direct employees are workers who have a contract of employment with your service

6. REMINDER Care Home Provider Training: Using Capacity Tracker dates for May and June 2023 (information for all providers)

30 minute Demonstration Q&A Sessions are available for those new to the Capacity Tracker, or in need of a refresh. The sessions will include how the Capacity Tracker updated screens will look following the introduction of mandatory completion.
