Update for schools: 22 April 2021

This update includes information about the appointment of an interim Director of Children's Services and the SEND

Message from Professor Graeme Betts, Acting Chief Executive, regarding appointment of interim Director of Children’s Services

I am delighted to announce that we have appointed Kevin Crompton as the interim Director of Children’s Services. His appointment is initially for six months and we are in the process of agreeing a start date which we hope will be within the next few weeks.

Kevin has worked in Birmingham in the past, and more recently has undertaken a wide range of executive director roles across several authorities including Director of Education and Children’s Services in Solihull, Chief Executive of both Luton and Haringey and Director of Children’s and Adults Services at Bedford Borough Council.

His appointment is key in helping to continue to develop our Education and Skills service and in leading our response to the preparation for our SEND re-inspection. He will also oversee work on areas such as the preparation for the Commonwealth Games and strategic commissioning.

It is a pleasure to welcome Kevin who brings a depth of experience and knowledge which will be invaluable at this time.

I’d also like to thank Andy Couldrick for stepping up while we were going through the process of appointing a DCS, and for the Children’s Trust for allowing him to do so over the past few weeks. His contribution has been very helpful at this challenging time.
