Update for schools: 18 March 2021

This update includes information about Operation Encompass and bereavement support available through the NHS in Birmingham.

Operation Encompass: Information and webinar for schools

Operation Encompass is an early information sharing partnership which connects the Police with schools and early years settings to secure better outcomes for children who are subject or witness to police-attended incidents of domestic abuse. Encompass ensures that all incidents of domestic abuse are shared with schools and early years settings, not just those where an offence can be identified. It will build on the good practice taking place in this area already in Birmingham schools and improve the support that is available to schools.

We are working towards full implementation of Operation Encompass by September 2021. Please find below links to training materials and resources for schools about Operation Encompass:

We would also like to invite schools DSLs to a webinar where more information about Operation Encompass and the next steps will be provided. This webinar will take place on Monday 29th March 2pm – 3pm.

Please book places using this Eventbrite link and a Teams invite will be sent to you ahead of the session. We will record the session and share the recording with all schools.

Bereavement support for children, young people and families

The NHS in Birmingham is offering confidential bereavement support to help children, young people and families who may be grieving the death of a friend or loved one. At the moment, many people are cut off from their usual support networks; so if you know of a child or someone who needs support, please encourage them to get the help they need. Our local bereavement experts are available to offer support due to all types of loss and to people of all ages.

Simply call 0121 687 8010 for instant support. The telephone opening hours are:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9.00am - 5.00pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday:  9.00am - 8.00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday:  12.00pm - 5.00pm

Assistance can also be accessed via email at: support@crusebirmingham.co.uk
