Summer Reading Challenge 2020 - New hobbies

Time to try out some new hobbies

Summer reading challenge poster

Having extra time at home in the school holidays might mean that you can try new hobbies. Maybe you could make a kite and see if it flies, find some things around the house to make into a musical instrument or write your own story book? I have tried to learn how to use a sewing machine but it’s very tricky! My boss in the Children’s Library has been trying out something a bit different. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to knit anything, but if you have I’m guessing you used knitting needles and wool.

The Children’s Library manager, however, has thought of her top 10 silly things to knit a scarf with:

For needles, she thought you could try:

  1. Spaghetti
  2. Cucumber
  3. Celery
  4. Cat’s tail (it’s not easy to get a cat to sit still long enough..)
  5. Kit kat (Oops, I ate it!)
  6. Breadsticks
  7. Hot dogs

For yarn, perhaps use:

  1. Noodles (what a muddle!)
  2. Apple peel
  3. Cotton wool
  4. A belt
  5. Candyfloss (very sticky)
  6. Cheese strings
  7. Cobwebs (make sure there’s no spiders!)

Why don’t you try?
