Free Music Event

Come along to this free live music event, a rare opportunity to hear the guitar music of the Early Romantic Period.

DODICI CORDE - Danielle Saxon Reeves & Mark Willetts.

Date: Saturday 21 September 2019

Location: The Sound Shower, Music Library, Library of Birmingham

Time: 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Danielle Saxon Reeves is a 19th century fretted instrument specialist. A devotee of the Early Romantic Guitar and the Mandolin, Danielle is also believed to be the world's only female professional Classic Fingerstyle Banjo player.

Guitarist and composer Mark Willetts has performed at venues all over the UK in a performance career spanning three decades. At ease with traditional, contemporary and original repertoire, Mark has won numerous awards for the quality of his performances.

Dodici Corde Guitar Duo was formed in 2008 and joins together the talents of Danielle Saxon Reeves and Mark Willetts. They enjoy exploring the duo repertoire of the Early Romantic Guitar (c1780-1880), performing the rarely played works of composers such as Giuliani, Sor, Carulli, Diabelli, Mertz, Coste and L’Hoyer, whilst giving audiences a rare opportunity to hear these neglected works on period instruments.

The guitars themselves are similar to a modern classical guitar, but are smaller bodied and lighter, with a bright lyrical tone. Few original instruments survive in good playing condition. Come along to this free, live music event, held in the Music Library.
