Active play, life skills and great food this summer

Happy Healthy Holidays (HHH) is supporting and co-ordinating over 100 holiday club across the city to offer a free, varied and quality assured activity programmes for children and teenagers. In so doing we aim to provide Birmingham’s young people with in-reach options to enjoy holiday clubs for 4 hours a day, 4 days a week over four weeks - with free healthy snacks and meals every session.

HHH is partnership of experienced organisations committed to promoting community and children’s wellbeing supported by Birmingham City Council. We are funded by the Department of Education and aim to inclusively engage disadvantaged 5 to 16 year olds, particularly the City’s 50,000 children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).

HHH principles - HHH is committed to providing inclusive, good quality, young person focused learning, food and play holiday activities that deliver the following daily provision:

  • Food - at least one meal a day (breakfast, lunch or tea + snack) and all food provided must meet the school food standards.
  • Nutritional Education – to strengthen young people’s knowledge and skills about healthy food through getting involved in food preparation and cooking; growing fruit and vegetables; shopping quizzes; taste tests; Eatwell Plate games and food safety guides.
  • Enrichment Activities – to support young people experiment, try out new activities, develop and/or consolidate creative skills and knowledge with their peers through diverse enrichment and play opportunities.
  • Physical Activities - activities and play which support young people to meet the Physical Activity guidelines for 5 to 16year olds on a daily basis (60 mins per day).

Quality Assurance – quality assurance checks including policies and procedures around safeguarding, health and safety, public liability insurance, Accessibility and Inclusiveness.
