Grant Scheme Criteria


Last year, Birmingham City Council published a book - Once Upon A Time In Birmingham: Women Who Dared To Dream - to celebrate the centenary of women getting the vote and inspire the next generation of female achievers and leaders.

Proceeds from the book are being put into a special book legacy fund to support girls in progressing their own academic / career dreams – ie to access further training / work experience, equipment, books or other development activities.

The key criteria successful applicants must meet is set out below:

  • Aged under 16, living in Birmingham
  • Either be in education in Birmingham (full or part-time) and / or work (less than 12 hours a week, term-time)
  • Bid should be for a single activity/purpose/equipment which would demonstrably help applicant work towards a stated ambition or goal – such as:
    • For educational courses up to Level 3 (A Level equivalent);
    • Tools, equipment or uniforms for job or qualification;
    • Transport to work experience for specified period / new job until applicant receives first pay slip.

The maximum amount awarded per application is £250.

Each application should be supported by references from two nominating adults (teacher, parent/guardian, mentor) plus evidence of course/equipment/transport/trip costs and benefit to applicant.

The closing date for applications is 7 February 2020.

Successful applicants would be notified in February 2020.
