About Bolder Healthier Champions

What Bolder Healthier Champions are

Bolder Healthier Champions are Birmingham residents who want to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities. Champions build their knowledge and skills so they can support others, promote healthier lifestyles and help reduce health inequalities in the city.

Champions play an important role in supporting our health and wellbeing strategy, "creating a bolder, healthier city 2022 to 2030".

What they do

Bolder Healthier Champions work with us as important advocates on key health topics. They take part in training and share information so that local communities can take control of their own health and wellbeing.

Champions will be supported through:

  • monthly meetings
  • opportunities for training
  • in-person events
  • a network of Champions
  • resources to use in ongoing work

By attending sessions focused on topical issues affecting local communities, you will gain knowledge and skills to improve the health and wellbeing of those around you.

This programme is shaped by the champions who take part. You will have opportunities to influence and develop this programme to make sure it delivers the greatest benefit to your communities.

These are three types of Champions. Each with its own programme.

  • Community Champions
  • Workplace Champions
  • Youth Champions

Skills you will need

You do not need any qualifications or past experience.

We are looking for people who want to help others and support their community's health.

You will receive information and resources to help you make the most of your skills. Champions also receive ongoing guidance on relevant health topics and have opportunities to develop new skills, such as communication and health literacy.
