BCIAHP project phases | Birmingham Culturally Intelligent Approach to Headache Disorder in Pakistani Communities (BCIAHP) | Birmingham City Council

BCIAHP project phases

Phase 1: Scoping – data collection and analysis

In the ‘scoping’ phase of this project, we sought to understand the nature and size of the need in the target population, as well as the specific barriers the community experiences when trying to manage chronic headaches and migraines.

To do this, we collected various sources of data, including:

  • clinical desktop assessment of anonymised hospital and GP data
  • community population survey on our Birmingham BeHeard website
  • community-led focus group research into cultural context and understanding conducted by Birmingham Voluntary Services Council (BVSC)

Phase 2: Co-design of resources

We worked with The Delicate Mind CIC to gather insights from Pakistani communities and local healthcare professionals to co-produce culturally intelligent resources which will promote awareness, prevention and engagement with healthcare professionals for chronic headaches and migraines.

Phase 3: Implementation of resources

We worked with local GPs and community pharmacists, and a group of ‘community influencers’ from the Pakistani community, to implement the co-produced culturally intelligent resources across East Birmingham.

Phase 4: Project evaluation

We worked with our academic evaluators, Social Machines, to evaluate the whole project and understand how effective it has been.
