The role of the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children has become increasingly important over time, particularly as there is growing recognition of the significant challenges which face both children who are in care and those known to a social worker.

There is also a greater acknowledgement of the important role that schools play in the lives of children in care and the impact that a school can have in helping to secure better outcomes for some of the most vulnerable children.
