National guidance for designated teachers
All maintained schools have a statutory duty to appoint a designated teacher for looked-after and previously looked-after children on the school roll.
We would recommend that all schools appoint a designated teacher and that the member of staff attends designated teacher training and network meetings, so they are up to date with current national and local authority guidance and practice.
The role and expected duties of the designated are set down in Statutory Department for Education guidance and update periodically.
