Birmingham schools are closed except to very specific groups of pupils. These pupils are vulnerable children, the children of specified key workers who cannot stay at home safely and the children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who are safest at school at this time. Other children with EHCPs are remaining at home.
All schools must ensure these children are able to access provision at school, either by remaining open or by making arrangements with other local schools. Any families who are having difficulties in accessing school provision at this time can contact Education officers by emailing email@example.com. Please include a contact name, number and email address.
Plans for re-opening schools
Birmingham City Council supports the phased re-opening of schools only where it is safe to do so.
Birmingham schools are undertaking risk assessments to ensure that the relevant safety measures are in place to welcome more children back to school. We are supporting school leaders with this very important and complex process and are aware that some schools, particularly larger schools, may need additional time to put safety measures in place.
Families should check with their child’s school for their planned reopening dates.
A statement from the Leader of the Council regarding this was issued on Tuesday 19 May 2020.
