Government small business grants

Government announces further discretionary business grants, see more information

The Government have now confirmed that the COVID-19 Small Business Grant scheme will officially end on 28th August 2020

We have already paid out over £200m in business support grants but believe there may be certain businesses who have not have contacted us and may still be eligible to receive a grant.

We do not want you to miss out the financial support you may be entitled to, so please, if you have not already done so, complete the online form below.

If you are unsure of what your business rateable value is please refer to a previous bill. Alternatively you can visit the Valuation Office Agency website to find out more.

Further details on the types of business that are entitled to receive support grants are:

There are 2 grant schemes for businesses in Birmingham

Scheme 1

  • £10,000 for businesses in receipt of Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR) or Rural Rates Relief (one grant per business)

Scheme 2a

  • £10,000 for retail, hospitality or leisure businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or less (one grant per premises)

Scheme 2b

  • £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with a rateable value of greater than £15,000 but less than £51,000 (one grant per premises)

You will only qualify for a grant from either Scheme 1 or Scheme 2

Please note: the following do not qualify for a grant:

  • businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or more and over
  • properties occupied for personal use or storage of loose boxes
  • private stables
  • moorings
  • car parks and parking spaces

If you have already submitted an online form but have not yet heard from us, then it is likely that we need some additional information from you and you can expect to hear from us in the next 7 to 14 days either by SMS, email or telephone call. Please ensure you provide the information as soon as possible.

If you have already submitted a form, please do not complete another online form.

Please complete as much information as you can in the form.

Complete your small business grant form and submit

If you do not meet the above criteria and/or you have been rejected for a small business grant for one of the following reasons:

  • Your business is not within the Retail or Leisure Sector
  • Your business is within the Retail or Leisure sector but you are NOT the recorded rate payer
  • Your rateable value is over £51,000
  • You occupy a shared office space and do not receive a rates bill in your name
  • You are a Market stall holder and do not receive a rates bill in your name

then you may still eligible for other support such as the Discretionary Grant scheme.

State aid

Businesses that occupy more than one property may be entitled to a grant for each of their eligible properties, subject to State Aid De Minimis limits.

  • For businesses who are in receipt of Small Business Rates Relief State Aid limits remain at a maximum of €200,000 over the current and previous two financial years
  • For most other retail, hospitality and leisure businesses State Aid limits have been increased to a maximum of €800,000 over the current and previous two financial years

Further information on State Aid law can be found at www.gov.uk/state-aid
