Building material analysis

We can provide analytical support to building investigation and material failures providing a range of analytical and other tests.

Services offered include the following:

  • Sulphate analysis: Investigation of the failure of concrete ground slabs due to sulphate bearing shales, ash and slag
  • Sulphate analysis: Mortars, bricks, concrete and render analysis.
  • Chloride content: Hardened concrete.
  • Mix proportions: Mortars, screeds and plasters.
  • Cement content: Hardened concrete
  • High alumina cement (HAC): Identification in hardened concretes.
  • Lead in paint: Analysis determination of the lead concentration prior to the commencement of remedial works for risk assessment purposes.
  • Failure of paints and coatings: Paint analysis, corrosion deposits, inclusions.
  • Determination of total and hygroscopic moisture content: Investigation of problems relating to dampness in buildings.
  • Analysis for soluble salts: Bricks, renders, mortars and plasters.
  • Petrographic examination: Determination of aggregate type, quality of hardened concrete, AAR / ASR, sulphate attack, cement types, mechanisms for deterioration
