Salary £74,984 - £92,681

Fixed Term Contract for 2 years

Designed to develop our people and communities and to focus on our priorities of children, housing, health, jobs and skills.

The foundations are laid for a 21st Century Council, with 21st Century Officers and Councillors. This includes working more closely with partners in the NHS and in neighbouring authorities. This post is a joint Consultant in Public Health appointment between Birmingham City Council, Solihull Council and Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group to strengthen the public health support to the NHS system.

The role will, through inspiring others, identify, drive and secure opportunities to improve and transform NHS services and strengthen the partnership working between the NHS and local authorities. Because the pace of improvement needs to be rapid and sustainable the portfolio may change over time, so adaptability and focus on delivery are also critical features.

The role will lead key work to support delivery of the STP outcomes framework and the evolving plan of action to deliver the health and wellbeing components of the NHS 10yr forward plan. In the initial stage the role will have a specific focus on improving outcomes for children and young people and supporting acceleration in the delivery of a programme of transformation in children and young people’s NHS services.

This role provides leadership to drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of the residents of Birmingham and Solihull, to reduce inequalities in health outcomes and work in collaboration with Public Health England to protect local communities from threats to their health through infectious diseases, environmental and other public health hazards.

The post is part of the Extended Leadership Teams of both Council Public Health functions and deputises for the Directors of Public Health as and when required, assisting to lead and manage Public Health service across Birmingham and Solihull.
