Overview

Shard End emerged in the post-war period as a major housing estate. This development occurred in stages, resulting in the varied building styles apparent today and typified by ‘The Shard’ which opened in 2012 to house Shard End Library and Council neighbourhood office (now no longer in the building). Standing next to All Saints Church and amidst the new shopping centre, this signifies the community focus that has been embodied by librarians in Shard End for 60 years.
