Book browsing and borrowing

Selected Birmingham libraries are open for book browsing and borrowing. During opening hours, there is no need to contact the library in advance. Just turn up, browse, select, and borrow. At busy times, to ensure space for social distancing, you may be asked to queue outside.

  • No appointment will be necessary.
  • You may have to queue outside if the building is at capacity.
  • Safe numbers of visitors at each library is different.
  • Browsing time will be limited to allow other people to use the library.
  • We will request contact details for NHS test and trace.
  • Please use hand sanitiser on entering the library.
  • You will be asked to wear a face covering, as you would in a shop, unless you are in one of the exempt groups.
  • In accordance with national guidelines, children aged under 12 should be accompanied by a parent/carer.
  • Self-service will be in use where available. Please see our website for information on our App that you can download to your phone and use to borrow items.

Safety is our top priority. As library services are expanded, they will be designed and delivered to help ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers. Please be aware that services may be subject to change as local COVID 19 circumstances develop.
