Moving children from SEN Statements and Learning Support Plans to Education, Health and Care Plans
All Statements of Special Educational Needs and Learning Support Plans will be transferred to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) by 1 April 2018. This is happening in stages, with priority being given to children who are coming up to a change in Key Stage level or type of school.
What does the transfer process involve?
The transfer process is a formal EHCP assessment that looks at the same things as an initial assessment request. Where the original information is still up-to-date and relevant, we will use it as part of the assessment, but further information will also be gathered and considered.
Timeline for replacing SEN statements and learning support plans
Many children’s statements and plans have already been replaced with EHCPs. For those that haven’t, the following timetable applies for the remainder of the transfer period.
- 1 September 2017 to 1 April 2018:
- Current school Year 6
Children over 16 years old who have a learning support plan won’t be automatically transferred, as their plan will run to its natural conclusion. However, any young person can ask for an EHCP assessment at any time, even where a learning support plan is still running.
In the meantime, all current statements will continue as they currently are.
