If you are homeless and eligible for assistance then the Council has a duty to try to relieve your homelessness. We will try to find you alternative suitable accommodation that will be available for at least 6 months. This does not have to be council or housing association housing and could be a private rented tenancy. If you refuse a suitable offer during this time then the Council may not have any further duty to house you.
If your homelessness is not relieved within 56 days then the Council will normally end the relief duty and issue you with a homeless decision.
