Apply for social housing

To join the housing register you must have some housing need.  This means that your current accommodation is not suitable for you or a member of your household.  You may also be disqualified from the housing register due to past behaviour such as rent arrears or anti-social behaviour.  These are considered on a case by case basis.

The council’s housing stock does not meet demand.  Joining the register may not therefore result in you being housed quickly or in your preferred area or property type.  If you would like to find immediately available properties in an area of your choice you may wish to consider some of the other options already described such as private-renting.
