Learner Services – Volunteering Leads
The adult education service works with learners who are often returning for a second chance at education. Many have disabilities and learning difficulties and require additional support in the classroom. This is where Learner Services steps in to provide and organise volunteers. Their excellent work was recognised in May when the team obtained the national Investing in Volunteers accreditation.
Carol, in her role as Strategic Lead in Older People Services, has supported those who are disadvantaged and improved the lives of older sheltered people across the city. Her work has meant that many have now been able to remain in their tenancies and retain their independence thus reducing their need for residential care. Carol’s Nominator says she always puts local people and their communities at the heart of her work.
Active Streets Team
The innovative Active Streets programme aims to bring neighbourhoods together, supporting community cohesion and tackling social isolation. The team work with residents to close their street for a few hours and claim back the space, turning it into a safe, vibrant space for people to unite and make improvements to the community they are proud to be part of.
