Bus priority measures locations

We are proposing bus priority measures on key corridors adjacent to the A4540 Middleway.

Between 21 May and 21 June 2019 we are consulting on proposals to introduce additional bus lanes on the southbound side of Hockley Hill, Great Hampton Street and Constitution Hill for use by buses travelling towards the city centre.

The new lanes would run from the Hockley Circus junction with the A4540 Middleway Ring Road to Summer Lane. Combined with the existing bus lane between Harford Street and Howard Street, this will create continuous bus lane along this stretch of road.

Between 1 April and 7 May, we consulted on proposals for bus priority measures in 5 locations:

  1. Smallbrook Queensway: A new bus lane on Smallbrook Queensway (starting just before Dudley Street and ending on the approach to Holloway Circus).
  2. Upper Dean Street: A bus gate will prevent general traffic accessing Upper Dean Street and Moat Lane from Pershore Street. Short bus lanes on Pershore Street will allow only buses, taxis and bicycles to turn into Upper Dean Street.
  3. Coventry Road: A new outbound bus lane from Digbeth High Street to Bordesley Circus.
  4. Rea Street: A new bus gate on Digbeth High Street (B4100) on the approach to the right turn into Rea Street (in the direction of Bordesley).
  5. Sherlock Street: A new outbound bus lane along Sherlock Street (between Gooch Street and Belgrave Middleway) and a shared footway/cycleway on Sherlock Street in the direction of Digbeth.
