Can I work and be a foster carer?
It depends on the age of the child.
Pre-school children under five years
Pre-school children under five years old need their foster carer to be available on a full time basis. This means that you can't work.
School-age children (five years old and over)
- short term carers: may work limited hours of approximately 16 hours per week
- long term carers: may work part-time as long as they are able to show that the child’s ongoing needs will be met
