M6 J6 to J8 northbound - essential repair work
Highways England (HE) are carrying out essential repair work to the M6 northbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 8 to keep it in a safe condition.
There will be significant disruption to the M6 while this work takes place and local routes around this area will also be busier than usual, particularly the A38(M) towards Birmingham city centre and A34 travelling out of city. Access to the M5 is also affected. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys.
The condition of the carriageway surface has deteriorated as a result of one of the wettest years on record followed by a winter spell of falling temperatures. This has resulted in water finding its way into the carriageway, freezing and then lifting and breaking up the road surface above it as it thaws. HE have recently carried out temporary repairs at this location but now need to repair the structure.
The following closures and restrictions are planned, with signed diversion routes:
Monday 5 March to Saturday 10 March:
- 10pm to 6am, M6 northbound from junction 7 to junction 8 closed and the northbound on-slip at junction 7 (Walsall and A34) will be closed, so there will be no access to the M6 north or M5 south from this slip road.
Sunday 11 March:
- 6am, all restrictions removed.
Please visit Highway England‘s website for further information and diversion routes.
