A38 Sutton Coldfield bypass maintenance upgrades
From 20 November 2017, we are carrying out essential maintenance work to the A38 Sutton Coldfield bypass:
- Replacement of barriers on the road, between Minworth Island and the M6 Toll junction
- Concrete repairs, re-waterproofing and new barriers at the Ox Leys Road and Walmley Ash Road bridges
- Concrete repairs and re-waterproofing of the Fox Hollies underpass
On the A38, the work will require a series of lane closures during times when there is less traffic, and some full road closures at weekends/nights to carry out specific tasks. Alternative routes will be signed during the closures.
Throughout the work, the speed limit on the A38 between Minworth Island and the M6 Toll junction will be reduced to 40mph, and the lay-bys will be closed.
The improvements at the Walmley Ash Road and Ox Leys Road bridges will require closing the bridges to traffic and using diversion routes for 20 weeks.
During Christmas week, every effort will be made to re-open the bridges through the use of temporary signals. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project.
The project is expected to be completed in Summer 2018.
