What alternative is there to using the home to school transport service?

As an alternative during the Autumn term, we are asking parents if they would prefer to transport their child to and from school, and receive a fuel allowance to cover the costs.

The allowance is 45p per mile for two return journeys to and from school.

For example, if your home to your child’s school is 6 miles each way, the allowance would be 4 x 6 = 24 miles, which equates to £10.80 per day.

If you choose to take up this offer, it will not affect your statutory rights to transport provision and your child’s transport can be reinstated at any time – we would just ask that you give at least one weeks’ notice for this.

The offer of fuel allowance is a temporary arrangement that will be reviewed at the end of the Autumn term.

Once the fuel allowance form has been completed, Travel Assist will calculate the mileage and make the necessary payment.
