Top Up Funding for SEN pupils
Top Up is the money that is paid to support an individual who is assessed as needing more than £10,000 of provision.
In practice top up is largely only currently available for pupils with a Education Health Care Plan (EHC Plan), (although there are a small number of pupils without an EHC Plan who receive top up).
Special Educational Needs Assessment Review Team (SENAR) provides top up funding, in special schools through the banded funding model.
In Resource Bases, fully accessible schools and mainstream top up is provided using CRISP (CRISP is nationally recognised as an effective model to assess need, determine provision and allocate resources).
Top up funding is based on real time funding and the Special Educational Needs Assessment Review Team (SENAR) responsible for tracking these changes.
