Invoices and payment schemes
We will send you an invoice for the cost of major work. Invoices must be paid within 28 days of the date of the invoice.
If you can’t afford to pay the invoice in one go and you can’t get a loan from your bank or building society, you may be able to apply to spread the cost with an extended payment scheme.
You can’t apply for extended payment if you sub-let your property, own multiple properties, or don’t live at the property.
If you would like to apply for one of the payment scheme options below, please contact the home ownership team.
The home ownership team will assess your application and look at the money you have coming in to your household and the money you need to pay your existing bills.
Extended payment options
There are four extended payment options available. If you would like more information on these payment options, please contact the home ownership team.
1. Invoices for £500 or less
You can spread your payments over a period of up to 12 months, interest free.
2. Invoices for between £501 and £3,500
You can spread your payments over a period of up to three years. Interest will be charged. If your invoice is for more than £2,000, the loan will be secured against your property.
3. Invoices for over £3,500
You can spread your payment over a period of up to ten years. Interest will be charged and the loan will be secured against your property.
4. Legal charge against your property
If you can’t afford any of the payment schemes above, we may consider putting a legal charge against your leasehold property. When you sell your property, you must pay the money you owe the council. You’ll be charged interest each year until you pay the money.
