What to expect when we work in your home

We aim to carry out work in your home with as little disruption as possible, and to keep you informed at every stage.

Before work starts

If you have given us a mobile phone number, you will receive:

  • a text message to confirm your appointment
  • 1 text message reminder per week until the day of the appointment (depending on the priority response for the repair)
  • a text message on the day to let you know when the operative is on their way to your home to carry out the repair

Before any work begins, the contractor will explain:

  • how long the work is expected to take
  • which areas of your home will be affected
  • what work will be carried out
  • what will be restored afterwards
  • any steps you need to take to prepare
  • any safety measures that must be followed

For larger or more disruptive work, you will get at least 48 hours’ notice.

During work in your home

Contractors will take steps to protect your home.

They will:

  • use dust sheets to protect floors and furniture
  • take care around your belongings
  • keep your home tidy during the work
  • leave your home secure at the end of each day
  • use equipment to reduce dust and disruption

If needed, contractors can:

  • help move light furniture
  • give support if you are elderly or have mobility needs
  • offer advice on how to prepare your home
  • give practical support, such as temporary power, where required

If you need extra help, tell your contractor or housing officer as early as possible.

After work is completed

After the work is finished, your home will be left:

  • clean
  • tidy
  • secure
  • free from equipment and waste

Any areas affected by the work will be restored to an appropriate standard.

We will ask you to complete a customer satisfaction survey about the service you received. Your feedback is used to improve our service.
