For children born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 starting school in September 2018 and those moving from infant to junior school.

What happens

October 2017

Birmingham City Council will attempt to write to parents and carers of children who are on the register at a community or private nursery advising them of how to apply for a reception class place

October and November 2017

Schools hold open days and evenings for parents

15 January 2018

Closing date for submitting application forms

16 April 2018

National offer day. Offers are sent by email to parents who applied on time

5 May 2018

Deadline for accepting reception place offers.  Parent and carers who have been offered a Birmingham school will be required to return the reply slip to that school. Failure to reply by this date will mean that you are at risk of losing the offer made. 

Parents offered school places in another local authority must complete and return the reply slip to the School Admissions Service.

22 May 2018

Deadline for submitting appeals against refusal of places at Birmingham community schools and academies. Some foundation schools, voluntary aided, free schools, academies and schools in other authorities may have different closing dates for appeals. Parents should contact them directly to check their closing dates.
