Renaming or renumbering an existing street

A street may be renamed or renumbered:

  • to accommodate the new properties being built in the street
  • if individual properties are difficult to find because they have names and no numbers

To change a street name we will ballot residents and landlords of the street. We need a minimum two-thirds majority in favour of making the change. We will then consult Royal Mail before a decision is made.

We will post public notices on the street to advise of the planned change for 30 days. Any objections raised must be heard by the Magistrates Court.
