Becoming a councillor - information for prospective candidates

Find out about becoming a councillor, including eligibility and what the role involves.

There are no scheduled local elections until May 2030. However, by-elections may be held if a councillor resigns or dies.

Becoming a councillor

Almost anyone can stand as a councillor. You can find out about eligibility and what you need to submit on the Electoral Commission website.
