Overview

In March 2015 the Council’s Cabinet approved plans for the major regeneration of the Poolway Shopping Centre and surrounding land located on the Meadway, Stechford.

The plans include the demolition of the existing shopping centre which contains 27 retail units, 84 flats and community buildings and the phased delivery of a new residential and retail development.

The first phase of redevelopment will comprise new retail and housing mainly to the east and south of the existing Poolway centre along with a reduction in size, but improvements to, the Kents Moat Recreation Ground.

The second phase of development will comprise redevelopment of the Poolway centre and provision of further retail and housing in line with the emerging Birmingham Development Plan.

An Outline Planning Permission for the development of the first phase of the scheme was secured on 4 February 2016. This comprises up to 136 new dwellings for both sale and rent, a district centre up to 2,730 sq. m, new access and enhancements to the retained open space (reduced in size by 33%) including new playing pitches, Multi Use Games Area, toddler play and teenager areas, outdoor exercise equipment, drainage works, footpaths, tree planting and landscaping.

When redeveloped, the site will provide a thriving and vibrant new local centre including a range of retail opportunities, a modern residential development which includes a range of affordable housing options and an enhanced area of public open space.

Compulsory purchase powers are being used to acquire the various interests in the site in order that the comprehensive development of the centre can proceed.

The Compulsory Purchase Order was made on 25 October 2016, and you can download copies of the order and background documents.

The compulsory purchase order was confirmed on 19 October 2017. A copy of the Notice of Confirmation can be viewed with the background documents.
